Dermaplaning
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive facial treatment that uses a precise, surgical grade blade to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells and fine vellus hair, more commonly known as peach fuzz, from the surface of the skin. The result is an instantly smoother, brighter, and more even complexion.
At Blossom Beauty, the treatment is finished with a nourishing collagen mask, working in perfect harmony with the freshly exfoliated skin to deeply hydrate, plump, and restore. With the surface layer cleared away, your skin is able to absorb the benefits of the mask far more effectively than it would otherwise, giving you that lit from within glow that clients love.
Dermaplaning is one of those treatments where you see and feel the difference immediately. Makeup sits differently, skincare absorbs better, and your skin simply looks more alive. There is no downtime, no discomfort, and no recovery time needed.

Pre & Post Treatment Advice
-
Arrive with clean skin if possible. If you are wearing makeup, it will be removed before treatment.
Avoid using retinol, tretinoin, AHAs, BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, or other active skincare products for 3–5 days before your appointment.
Do not use exfoliating scrubs or have any other exfoliating treatments for 5–7 days beforehand.
Avoid waxing, threading, or hair removal on the treatment area for at least 7 days before your appointment.
Avoid excessive sun exposure or sunbeds for 48 hours before treatment. Dermaplaning should not be performed on sunburned skin.
Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment.
Inform your practitioner if you:
Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Have active acne, cold sores, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea flare-ups, or any skin infection in the treatment area.
Have recently had a chemical peel, laser treatment, or other advanced facial treatment.
Are taking medications that affect the skin, such as isotretinoin (Roaccutane), or have taken it within the last 6–12 months (follow your clinic protocol).
Have any allergies or medical conditions that may affect treatment.
If you develop a cold sore, skin infection, or become unwell before your appointment, contact the clinic to reschedule.
-
Your skin may appear slightly pink or feel sensitive for a few hours after treatment. This is normal and usually settles quickly.
Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 every day and avoid direct sun exposure for at least 7 days, as your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays.
Keep your skin well hydrated using a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser.
Avoid touching or picking at your face unnecessarily.
For the First 24 Hours
Avoid applying makeup if possible.
Avoid strenuous exercise that causes excessive sweating.
Avoid hot baths, hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs.
Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
Avoid alcohol if your skin feels particularly sensitive.
For 3–5 Days
Do not use retinol, tretinoin, AHAs, BHAs, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C serums (if they cause irritation), or physical exfoliants.
Avoid facial waxing, threading, or other exfoliating treatments.
Use only gentle cleansers and moisturisers.
Ongoing Care
Continue wearing SPF daily to protect your skin and maintain your results.
Drink plenty of water to help keep your skin hydrated.
Follow a consistent skincare routine as recommended by your practitioner.
Treatments are typically repeated every 4–6 weeks to maintain smooth, radiant skin.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Dermaplaning can improve the appearance of superficial acne scarring by smoothing the skin's surface, but it will not remove deep scars. Other treatments may be recommended for more significant scarring.
-
If you have active or inflamed acne, dermaplaning is usually not recommended, as the blade can irritate the skin and spread bacteria.
-
Dermaplaning is generally considered a low-risk cosmetic treatment because no chemicals are involved. However, skin can be more sensitive during pregnancy, so a consultation is important to ensure the treatment is appropriate for you.
-
Yes. Dermaplaning is often combined with hydrating facials, LED light therapy, or nourishing masks. Your practitioner will advise which treatments are suitable to combine safely.
-
Dermaplaning removes the outer layer of dead skin cells, making your skin temporarily more sensitive to UV rays. Wearing SPF helps protect your skin and maintain your results.
-
Most clients do not experience peeling. Some may notice mild dryness or slight flaking over the next few days, which is normal and can be managed with a gentle moisturiser.
-
A dermaplaning appointment usually takes 30–45 minutes, depending on whether it is performed alone or as part of a facial.
-
They work differently. Dermaplaning physically removes dead skin cells and fine facial hair, while a facial scrub exfoliates only the surface. Dermaplaning generally provides a smoother finish and allows skincare products to absorb more effectively.
-
Most clients benefit from treatment every 4–6 weeks, which aligns with the skin's natural renewal cycle. Your practitioner will recommend a schedule based on your skin type and goals.
-
Dermaplaning is a safe, non-invasive facial treatment that uses a sterile surgical blade to gently remove dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (often called "peach fuzz"), leaving the skin smoother and brighter.
-
No. This is a common myth. Dermaplaning does not change the thickness, colour, or rate of hair growth. The hair will grow back with the same texture and colour as before.
-
No. Most clients find it relaxing and painless. You may feel a light scraping sensation, but it should not be uncomfortable.
-
There is very little downtime. Your skin may look slightly pink or feel a little sensitive for a few hours, but most clients return to normal activities immediately.
-
Results are visible immediately. Your skin will feel smoother, appear brighter, and makeup often applies more evenly.
-
Results typically last 3–4 weeks, depending on your skin's natural cell turnover. Most clients have treatments every 4–6 weeks.
-
It's best to wait 24 hours before applying makeup to allow your skin to recover and reduce the risk of irritation.
-
Not always. It may not be suitable if you have:
Active acne.
Cold sores.
Skin infections.
Open wounds.
Sunburn.
Certain skin conditions during a flare-up, such as eczema or psoriasis.
A consultation will determine whether the treatment is suitable for you.
